Reid Turns Down Swansea Opportunity

Scotland still has its attractions over the Principality Hamilton Accies manager Billy Reid wants to stay and has turned down the chance to speak to Swansea about their vacant manager's seat. Reid was targeted by the Swans as the man to take over from Paulo Sousa, who has left to become manager of Leicester. However, it never got to the stage of any serious discussions as Reid's relationship with Accies chairman Ronnie MacDonald and his players persuaded him to stay. Accies Chief executive George Paterson said: "Our chairman was asked by Swansea Football Club for permission to speak to our manager, Billy Reid, regarding an opportunity for Billy to take over as manager of Swansea. Ronnie met with our manager and after discussions Billy has decided that he did not want to pursue the opportunity at this time and declined the invitation. Billy was flattered by the approach from a club with the stature of Swansea but he feels obliged to see through the unfinished work he has at Hamilton." Reid has been in charge at Hamilton for five years and is happy to remain at the club. He said: "I have a built a very strong and hard working squad, we have a hugely successful youth policy and I feel a huge sense of loyalty to the players and staff at Hamilton. I remain hugely ambitious and want to progress in management but with this offer the timing was wrong. On top of this I have a superb working relationship with our chairman, Ronnie MacDonald, who gave me my first opportunity in management at Broadwood and that is my ultimate reason for staying."
