Rangers Favourites To Progress

Rangers continue their venture into pastures new when they head to the Falkirk Stadium for their game against the holders of the Ramsdens Cup.

Falkirk will leave it as late as possible for experienced centre-half Darren Dods to prove his fitness following a calf injury. The Bairns have everyone else available, with striker David Weatherston coming through his comeback in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Raith unscathed after four months out with a hamstring problem. Technical director Alex Smith said: "Rangers may be coming here as a Third Division side but with the squad they have I would suggest they are favourites to go through. There is no pressure on us but we are looking to cause an upset like we did in the Scottish Communities League Cup last season. We need to play really well to do anything.'' Rangers manager Ally McCoist has doubts over Dean Shiels and Lee Wallace. Shiels was forced out of Saturday's 5-1 win over East Stirling with a dead leg and may miss the second round clash. Wallace is also struggling with a similar problem ahead of tonight's game.  Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish Communities League Cup by Falkirk last season. New boy Kevin Kyle aims to help secure Rangers' place in the next round. He said: "I don't think there are any points to prove. The nucleus of the team is still very good. Regardless of whether it's in this league or the SPL, it's still a good team. We just need to go out there and be professional and do our job. Falkirk will be a tough game. Every game is tough so hopefully we can come out victors and get into the next round."
