Stuart Ramsden is hoping he can convince his old manager to sign him for a second time

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall is still mulling over offering Simon Ramsden a contract. The former Bradford full-back, who is available as a free agent, has linked up with the Fir Park side at their Portuguese training camp. The defender featured in a friendly game after arriving in the Algarve and will have another chance to enhance his chances when McCall intends to give him a run out against Ayr on Saturday. McCall considers his squad could do with some strengthening at right-back and is prepared to offer Ramsden every opportunity to stake a claim for that role. McCall knows a lot about Ramsden having previously signed him for Bradford and believes he would be a useful addition to his Fir Park squad. He just wanst to make sure it is the right decision for the team. McCall said: "Rammers will get a game down at Ayr. He's a good pro and talks well. We had a nine-a-side game over in Portugal and he did well. It's an area of the park which does certainly need strengthening. I look at Steven Saunders and still believe at this stage of his career and development that he would make a better right-back. We've got Jonathan Page who came in and did well last season and a couple of young lads, but we just have to wait and see what happens with the lads we've got in at the moment."
