Raith 0 Cowdenbeath 1- next stop Clyde.

One out of two for Cowdenbeath in cups as the Blue Brazil get their 2010/11 campaign underway at local rivals Raith Rovers. Gordon Brown, Adam Smith, Richard Park, Links Market can you hear me ? Your boys took a helluva beating!Raith boss John McGlynn had his players locked in the dressing room long after the crowd had departed Starks Park after the match on Saturday. Is still seen as embarrassing to lose to Cowdenbeath, even after they have gained two promotions in two seasons? Maybe McGlynn was more embarrassed that ex-Raith faves Jimmy Nic and Colin Cameron had returned to the Lang Toun to steal his thunder and an Alba Cup victory!Cowden were well worth their win. Marc McKenzie had them ahead actually after 22 mins but his bundled effort was ''Lamparded'' by the referee. The ball was clearly over the line but the three officials waved play-on. Justice was done in the second half when John Armstrong scored the goal that gave The Blue Brazil a 1-0 win. This is the sort of smash and grab act Cowden must perfect in the league when Division 1 gets underway. Nicholl and Cameron are under no illusions that 8th place and survival will probably be the best they can hope for when hostilities get underway for real but maybe Cowden fans can expect a cup run or two in the new season following Saturday's performance. It is 80 years since 'beath reached the SFA Cup Quarter Finals, 40 years since they went beyond that stage in the League Cup (losing a semi final 2-0 to Rangers). There have been no  appearances in the last four of the Alba Cup since its inception so maybe cup ties will provide more free flowing fitba' from the Central Fifers, league performances will have to be tight at the back with no room for error. This Saturday Cowdenbeath travel to Cumbernauld to take on Clyde in the CIS Cup and another win will set them up nicely for their opening league game at Central Park versus Ross County.Cowden have signed former St Mirren stalwart Ludovic Roy as goalkeeping coach and cover for first choice 'keeper David Hay.There are another eight league derbies to come against Raith and Dunfermline this season and possible local skirmishes in cup competitions too but Cowden have put down a marker that they won't be Fife's poor relation in the second tier of Scottish football this term.Marvin Andrews, Robert The Bruce, Jack Vettriano ... can you hear me ?
