Pursehouse Believes

The priviledge of playing football for a living has not been lost on young Alex

Defender Alex Pursehouse has started two games for Kilmarnock this month, including last weekend's 3-3 draw against Celtic, and is keen to stay in manager Kenny Shiels' plans after forcing his way into the first team. The teenager certainly believes he has the ability and, although fully aware he still has a lot still to learn, hopes his hard work will be rewarded with a regular starting berth. Pursehouse said: "You've got to have inner belief. If you don't believe in yourself no-one else will. I'm knuckling down and working hard and hopefully it will pay off. For a 19-year-old it's a dream. To play at such a high level at this age is a great privilege. It's a great privilege to be playing at Kilmarnock and I'm enjoying it. I'm only young and I'm still learning. I'm working hard in training to improve and hopefully I can take that into games and hopefully I can please the gaffer and keep myself in the team. But I'm young and you're only as good as your last game so I'll see what happens." Pursehouse believes the 90 minutes against Celtic in one of the most dramatic games of the season can only have helped his development. Kilmarnock ended the half being three goals to the good only for Celtic to stage an impressive comeback in the final 15 minutes to secure a share of the points. Pursehouse went on: "The excitement of the game was unbelievable. It's a dream to play in that kind of game, especially against Celtic. We've shown what we can do against Celtic. If we can take that into the other games we can do well. We have been doing well and working hard and playing good football. Especially against Celtic, we showed what we can do and when we are playing at our best we are capable of anything. We can certainly go on and upset a lot of people." The next challenge for Kilmarnock is the game with Motherwell tomorrow in which Pursehouse hopes to be involved. He said: "Motherwell have got some very good players and anything can happen in the SPL, it's a great league. Motherwell are doing very well at the minute. It's not going to be an easy game but we have been preparing well and we are looking forward to it. After the Celtic game, we believe we can do it. There are no easy games in the league but we will give it our all. That's all we can do and hopefully we can get the win. I think we deserved the win last week to be fair but a point is a good result against Celtic. We have analysed our mistakes, we've worked on it, and hopefully we can put it right."
