Thrust into the first team and showing that he can do a job earns praise from Jim Jefferies

Dunfermline players have had to rise to the challenge of losing pleayers in an attempt to save money under administrator Bryan Jackson. Manager Jim Jefferies, owrking ona reduced salary, wanted to highlight the efforts of six foot three inches 'keeper Michael Hrivnak. He has been elevated to the first team after Paul Gallacher was released as the club slipped into administration. Slovakian goalkeeper Hrivnak kept a clean sheet at Cappielow on Saturday as Dunfermline beat Morton 1-0. Hrivnak provided a formidable, if sometimes unconventional, barrier to the Greenock side.Jefferies said: "When I first saw Michael I thought he was tall and I am sure he has grown since then. He played a big part in our win at Morton with some good saves at key times. On a couple of occasions we thought that headers had got past him but he stretched his body and touched the ball away. He is raw but he did a good job and is learning all the time. Playing against a good team like Morton on a horrible day with the wind blowing all over the place and keeping his goal intact will do wonders for him."
