John Potter would love to put one over St Mirren on the first day of the SPL season John Potter admits he was stunned to hear that St Mirren were willing to let him leave to find another club at the end of last season. Now signed to the Pars again, he is now determined to show Buddies manager Danny Lennon his mistake when the two sides meet in the newly-promoted Dunfermline's' opening game of the SPL season. Potter returned to East End Park for his second time at Dunfermline when he agreed a one-year deal after coming through a medical on Monday. He said: "I want to get into the team for that first game of the season but it will be difficult breaking into what was a very successful team last year. These guys will be looking to play and I have just got to come in and impress. It is a different club but, as you could see at the end of last season, the fan base is still there. The attendances were incredible so hopefully those fans can come back and there will be a great atmosphere and we can make East End a fortress." Former Saints skipper Potter met with manager Danny Lennon before the last game of the 2010-11 season, fully expecting to see a new contract offer waiting on the table. However, he was tald that his time in Paisley was over and he was free to find a new club in the summer. He went on: "I thought I was staying at St Mirren and it was a bit of a shock. It was the manager and the club's choice to let me go. Disappointing, obviously, but in a few days you get over it and realise that you have to get on with your career. He (Lennon) told me that was it and I didn't stay for a conversation. On the Saturday I went out and played in the last game against St Johnstone, drew 0-0 and left. I had a good spell there and have some good friends at the club. It was reasonably successful and I enjoyed it."
