Please Can I Play Some More

Realism hits home when looking for a new deal if you are past 30

There comes a time in every player's career when a new deal is not a given. The years can catch up with you as you reach the veteran stage and managers look to what you can deliver compared to the young bucks coming through the system. One such veteran is defender Alan Maybury who is hopeful that his talks with Hibs over a new deal will result in at least another year where he can pull on his boots in the SPL. The one year deal he had with the Easter Road side expired at the end of the season. However, Maybury would like to continue working with manager Pat Fenlon in the new season. Maybury has been around with time spent with with Leeds, Leicester and St Johnstone, but the Republic of Ireland international's longest stay was with over 100 games for Hibs' rivals Hearts.Maybury admitted: "There is nothing definite at the moment so I am a bit in limbo. But my agent has spoken to Pat a couple of times while I spoke to the manager last week and we are keen to get something sorted. There is a lot going on so it is a case of being patient. However, I am hopeful we'll get something sorted out. I'm used to it at this stage of my career. I have had one-year contracts for the past few years, so you can't get too panicked. The hope is that I will be back in with Hibs come the new season."
