Playing With Sole

Rumours are some Falkirk fans will bring their ''No More Brown Suede Shoes'' banner to Central Park on Saturday as a majority of followers of the Dark Blue continue to call for Steven Pressley's head However, maybe those belligerent Bairns should spare a thought for success starved Cowdenbeath fans, who last played in Scotland's top division when they were promoted as runners-up to Falkirk in season 1969/70. Blue Brazilians would have every right to unfurl a sign that says 'What Are Shoes?' during the very meaningful clash for both sides on Saturday. It now looks like a straight Fife fight between The Pars and Raith for the title in Div One but Falkirk still hold onto mathematical uncertainties while Cowden need a performance 'on par' with Saturday's draw in Kirkcaldy while hoping the first Partick Thistle side to lose to the 'Beath in the league in 80 years this season can do them a favour v Ross County. The odds are still in favour of the Alba Cup winners as far as the play-off spot goes (Stirling now relegated) but there has been a recognition amongst many Blue Brazilians that the last two games of this season will be a repeat of last term's play-off final to win Div 1 status - Cowden v Brechin. Cowdenbeath have to fancy their chances in any play-off ties after showing they can raise their game for the big occasion against Fife rivals Dunfermline and Raith recently, and indeed Falkirk, who they drew with  just last month in a scoreless Central Park encounter. The Blue Brazil are desperate to get defender Joe Mbu fit again but are confident of at least a point again this Saturday with Greig Stewart now back in the frame up front after injury. Two goals against Raith and Dundee recently have put Stewart on track for at least one supporters club's player of the year trophy. The gloves, and indeed the shoes, will be off on Saturday afternoon when these two old rivals from the 1970's lock horns again. Cowden will be hoping Time Wounds All Heels by taking three points to finally kill off Elvis's SPL ambitions.
