Players Pay Their Part

How many of you would give up your salary to save your employer? Stirling Albion’s ‘Fan Aid’ campaign, to raise cash for the club, was launched five days ago and has been boosted by the players who have agreed to forego their February salary. The club has not made any money due to three months of postponements thanks to the winter weather.  Club spokesman, Paul Goodwin said:  "This is a fantastic gesture from the players and one that is most appreciated.  Since the Supporters Trust took control of the club just seven months ago we have managed the affairs of the club prudently and within an agreed financial structure.  However, no business can cope without any income for three months and with every bill paid we are now operating at the bare minimum, which is why we started the Fan Ais campaign. Having the players come to us to say they appreciated our efforts and wanted to be part of the campaign just says how they feel about our club. The Trust has no overdraft nor any millionaire backers; but what we do have is 2400 dedicated members and supporters and a team that we are now even more proud of."Captain Ross Forsyth said: "The owners (the fans) have done a great job given the unique circumstances and the team appreciate just what they have achieved and wanted to support the Fan Aid campaign. The boys just felt that as we are all in this together saying that we didn’t want paid in February was a positive thing that we could all do."Fans will be able to play their part by making donations at the Doubletree Dunblane Stadium today, and at every future home game, when Stirling Albion will take on 1st Division leaders Raith Rovers. Goodwin went on: "Now is the time we really need the support of the Stirling community.  Saturday is a perfect time to come to the Doubletree Dunblane Stadium if they haven’t been for a while as we’ll have the league leaders in town and our new manager Jocky Scott’s first game in charge to enjoy."
