Christmas could come early for one of four players up for the Player of the Year award

Glasgow City’s Jane Ross has been named on the short-list for Premier League Player of the Year alongside Lucy Graham (Forfar Farmington), Jill Paterson (Rangers), Suzanne Grant (Celtic). Perhaps understandably, City’s head coach Eddie Wolecki Black considers there can be only one winner. He said: "This is the time of year when awards are being handed out and our own Jane Ross has been shortlisted for the most prestigious award, the Premier League Players Player of the Year. Of course I may be accused of being biased towards my own players, however I think the facts say it all. In 2012 Jane has started over 90% of all our games and she missed games only through Olympic duty. Only Rachel Corsie and Nicola Docherty have started more games. She has won the League title and League Cup as well as having a Scottish Cup final to come. Her previous best total of 29 goals has been surpassed in style this season. Her second goal on Sunday was her 40th of the season. In June this year team Team GB came calling and when the cut was made to the final 22 the name of Jane Ross appeared on the list for the Olympics, the only Scotland based footballer to be on the list. At international level she has started every European qualifier and been a very important player as the national team went so close to making it to Euro 2013 in Sweden. In the Champions League Jane performed excellently, and scored vital goals against PK-35 Vaanta and against Fortuna Hjørring in the last 32. Therefore for me and with all due respect to the other nominations, none of them come close to the achievements of Jane this season and in the short list this has obviously been recognised by her fellow players. I only hope the final votes reflect her season."The winner will be whoever gets the most votes from their Premier League colleagues after nominations were submitted on their behalf by their club to the SWF. If you are entitled to vote, you still have time to reward one of your peers for their achievements this season.
