Perhaps Inverness Should Take The Long Way Round To The Ground

Inverness seem to thrive on traveling before they play as they have picked up all their points away from home. Inverness are now in seventh place in the SPL thanks to a brace of goals from Eric Odhiambo which secured the 2-1 win in Paisley over St Mirren. Odhiambo is looking to his side to be looking to achieve much more than survival this season. The Englishman scored in quick succession on either side of half-time to take Inverness' points total to seven points - all gained in away games. Odhiambo said: "We just seem to click in away games and it's something we're looking to build on at home to try and get our form going there. If we can do that, there's nothing we can't achieve - we aren't here just to make up the numbers and it isn't a season where we just want to stay up and that would be success. We want to push as high as we can and the manager (Terry Butcher) isn't one to let us rest on our laurels." Odhiambo praised the contribution of his team-mates to his double, particularly teenage substitute Nick Ross who was introduced early in the first half. He went on: "The first was a free-kick and a bit of quick thinking from Stuart Duff, and I played a one-two with Nick Ross, who had just come on, and he put me through. I think he's been probably our best player this season and nothing seems to faze him - he came on in an unfamiliar position in central midfield and did really well. The second came from a great run from Jonny Hayes who slid the ball in for me, and I got a good first touch and chipped it over the goalkeeper. I got my first league goal of the season last week and then another two here, so I'm happy with that and the three points, and I just want to keep getting goals." St Mirren's late contribution to the score-line from Paul McGowan was a mere a late consolation and his side were unable to fight back to claim a point and are now lying at the bottom of the table. Danny Lennon's side have garnered just four points thanks to one win and one draw from their six games this season. Saturday's result was their third straight defeat. Lennon said: "The big question is how we bounce back. I thought we started the game reasonably well but again we gave away very cheap goals and once again gave ourselves that mountain to climb. I'm sick of repeating myself, that we're giving ourselves obstacles to climb to try and pick up points in the SPL. At this moment I'm asking each and every one of the players for a wee bit more character, to be brave and to try and make something happen. To do anything in a game of football, you need seven to eight players at it week in, week out, and we don't seem to have that at the moment and have to look at ourselves, take responsibility for that and ask why. I've told the players that they're the resources we have and only they can turn this run of defeats around - it's unacceptable not to be picking up points, especially at home, if you're looking for SPL status come May."
