One Game At A Time

This is not the time to look too far ahead when league points are at stake Craig Brown is asking that his players forget all about Saturday's trip to Hampden for the Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-final against Celtic. They have to focus on their drive to pick up three league points against Inverness tonight. The Dons met Saturday’s rivals last weekend and were a different team to the one that lost 9-0 in November and only lost to an Anthony Stokes goal. However, Pittodrie manager Brown insists his side have to concentrate on the trip to the Tulloch Caledonian Thistle stadium where they will be looking to continue their fight to get away from the wrong end of the table. Brown said:  "It had better not be a distraction. We will be ensuring the players are in no doubt that the priority is the next game we play and the priority is to get points in the SPL. So we forget totally and completely about the weekend and concentrate fully on getting the points at Inverness. I wouldn't be dismissive of Inverness, I've been there with Motherwell and I was fortunate. Blackman scored the winner and it was fortunate because a draw would have been fairer. So we know their capabilities and I have the highest regard for Terry Butcher and Maurice Malpas. We must maintain our standards and hopefully get reasonably good results." Brown confirmed that striker Andrius Velicka, on loan from Rangers, has been told that he has no future at Pittodrie. The former Scotland manager said: "The thinking behind that is we have recruited Nick Blackman and it puts Andrius down the pecking order a bit. He has a great scoring record but he hasn't shown it here and he isn't one of our players. We have five strikers and I am very pleased with Vernon, Maguire, Magennis, Paton and we also Blackman on loan, so Andrius was down the bottom. I believe he is off on Thursday to Switzerland and may get a contract there." Brown insists he is relaxed about any deals on the cards before the transfer window closes next week. He said: "We have targeted a couple of players and hopefully we get one out of two in. It is not essential, though, it is desirable and I would rather get one useful player in than one for the sake of signing. It is important that a club makes no signing rather than a bad signing And having watched the under-19s, I feel reassured that if we don't get our targeted players we would not be too bad off. They they look exceptional and we could promote them." Editor Ger Harley ( Team ( is Scottish-Fitba.Net
