Gardner Speirs reckons that Aberdeen have signed a cracker in striker in Lawrence Shankland. The young front man joined the Dons yesterday on a two year deal after just one season in senior football with Queen's Park. The move to Scotland’s top flight is no surprise to the former assistant manager at Pittodrie. Queen’s Park’s head coach said: "I first noticed Lawrence when he was playing in our under-13 team and he looked a bit special then. He worked his way through our age groups before making a really impressive start as a first team player at the start of last season. He scored a variety of goals and ended last season as our top goalscorer. I am sure that if he works hard in a full time environment then he can grow into a striker that the Aberdeen fans will really take to."Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is a long-time admirer of Shankland and he could have been heading south and not north if things had worked out for McInness at Bristol. Speirs went on: "Derek first declared an interest in Lawrence when he was the manager at Bristol City so he is well aware of what he is getting. When he moved on to Aberdeen he got back in touch and sent scouts along to watch him."
