Now The Welsh Say No To Trip North

The SFA are running out of English speaking countries to approach for stand-in officials if the referees' strike goes ahead this weekend. Whichever way the SFA turns it appears they are getting doors shut in their face as they look for officials to take change of their games in Scotland. The latest Association to say 'no thanks' are the Welsh FA which has confirmed that none of their referees would be heading to Scotland this weekend. The SFA are still talking to Scottish referees' representatives in a bid to persuade the officials to call off their proposed strike. Grade one referees on Sunday voted to withdraw their labour, bringing this weekend's scheduled fixtures into doubt. Tuesday night's discussions between the SFA and the referees were described as "constructive" and carried on today. It is understood all the referees will be contacted on Wednesday evening when they will be asked for their thoughts on the outcomes of the discussions which are due to end within the next couple of hours. The SFA have set a deadline for midday on Thursday for a resolution before they turn elsewhere for replacement referees. However, it is not clear exactly where those officials will come from after referees from Iceland, Norway and Wales indicated they would not be willing to cross the metaphorical picket line. A statement on the official FAW website read: "It has now been decided that no Welsh officials will travel to Scotland this weekend to officiate in any SPL matches. After consultation with available officials, the decision has been taken for them not to officiate in Scotland."
