Nothing to prove for Gordon

Craig Gordon insists he has nothing to prove as he battles to reclaim his position as Scotland number one.

The Sunderland goalkeeper earned his 40th cap in Tuesday night's 3-0 win against the Faroe Islands. However, manager Craig Levein reiterated just 24 hours before the clash at Pittodrie that Allan McGregor - who was rested as a result of a hectic club schedule - was now his first choice goalkeeper.

"I just want to play. I want to play for my club and I want to play for my country and I will do my best to try and do that as much as possible," said Gordon.

"That's my 40th cap. I don't think I need to go out against the Faroes and show myself in a better light.

"You can't look to try and show off in games, you can only do what's put in front of you. I've done that and we kept a clean sheet.

"The manager knows what he is going to get from me. I have been there and done it before many times so he doesn't need me to go out there and show him anything. I still don't think I have anything to prove.

"I have done well as a Scotland goalkeeper and wherever I've been, when I've been with Hearts in difficult games, in European games.

"I've gone down to Sunderland and, when I've been injury free, I've been playing fairly well.

"So I really don't think I have to do anything. If the manager wants to pick me, I will play.

"I will keep doing exactly what I've done for the past eight or nine years since I started playing and if he picks me, he picks me."
