Not Ready For First Division

Alloa miss out on promotion but boss feels the time is not right Although gutted at losing out on promotion to the First Division (you could say twice in the space of a week, losing the league on goal difference to Stirling Albion then the play off against Cowdenbeath) Alloa boss Alan Maitland insists his Wasps side are not ready for the step up yet. Maitland states "If we look at our team we would openly admit we are nowhere near ready to go and compete in the first division - we will look to address it during the summer and look to go on and win it next year."The manager makes a very valid point when he goes on to say. " We are a club who are trying to build to make things better - when our time comes to go up, we are going to stay up, we are not going to go straight up and come straight back down again."Alloa's injury problems in recent weeks and indeed during the season have been a major contribution in them failing to gain promotion, especially in the games against Cowdenbeath. The Wasps would never use this as an excuse, instead they hope to go on and add a few more experienced players to the squad during the close season, and then hopefully they can win promotion to the first division with a squad of players capable of staying there. The Alloa fans will hope Maitland stays around the Recs to continue with the improvement he has brought to the team and get them to Division 1. He has, however, been linked to the current vacancy at Morton which has become vacant after James Grady and Allan McManus left the club.
