No Rest For Raith Rovers Staff

The last home game of the season has been played at Starks Park but that does not means activity halts in Kirkcaldy

The punishment a football pitch has to take during a season takes it toll and groundsmen do their best to ensure the surface is playable week in week out. The guys at Starks Park will have something new to play with as Raith Rovers have lifted the pitch already as they plan to have a better playing surface in place for next season. The top layer of turf has been removed, diagonal cuts inserted to a depth of six to seven inches, eighty tonnes of sand and 360 kilos of high quality grass seed have been sown. The groundstaff will also be spreading fertiliser and watering the pitch with a final check undertaken by the contractors a fortnight 14 days before the first pre-season friendly. The final touch will be the application of 40 tonne of top dressing and the pitch being verti drainedA club spokesperson said: "Hopefully, we will have the playing surface that the players, management and the fans want to have.  Fingers crossed the Scottish weather does its bit to help and we have a decent summer."
