No Lack Of Confidence From Sheils

Kenny Sheils is in a difficult position as he works his probation period in the Rugby Park manager's office Kenny Shiels is confident he is the right man to take on the permanent role of Kilmarnock manager despite speculation now surrounding who will fill the vacancy. Shiels took over as caretaker-manager when Mixu Paatelainen left to take up the post as manager ofthe Finland national team. Sheils worked closely with Paatelainen and has made no secret of his desire to take on the role permanently. He could now face competition for the job after reports on Thursday claimed Hugo Sanchez has applied for the Killie post. The board will most probably leave any decision on the appointment until after the end of the season. This gives Shiels three more game to convince the Rugby Park board to hand him the reigns next season. He said: "I'm confident. There is lots of talk and gossip and things like that but I'm very confident I can do the job."  Shiels is still looking to record his first win as caretaker manager, as he prepares his Kilmarnock charges to take on Celtic at Rugby Park on Sunday. Celtic will be out to make sure they pick up all three points on offer after failing to pick up any on Wednesday against Inverness. Shiels said: "Psychologically, when it's the top half of the split playing against the bottom half in the month of May, you're thinking 'who's head is going to be on that game the most?' You would have thought Celtic. But, unfortunately for them, Inverness showed tremendous spirit and fight and strength of character. They put up a really good show. I was surprised, I expected Celtic to win because of the enormity of what they had to play for. It has an impact on our game, not so much in terms of retribution, but the players will surely feel they owe the manager and they owe the supporters who made that journey up to Inverness. They will be trying to make sure they are not totally out of the league race and they can get back on schedule and make a fight of the title."
