No Defence For Hughes

While some could argue that the Hibs defence cannot get any worse, suspensions will limit John Hughes options in that department John Hughes could be struggling to get a Hibs side together for the final Edinburgh derby of the season with four of his regular first team squad suspended for the game on 1 May. Sol Bamba starts a three-game ban with the visit of Rangers, followed by the Hearts and Motherwell games. Kevin McBride, Darren McCormack and Ian Murray all picked up bookings when lost 3-2 at Parkhead. Referee Stephen Finnie's yellow cards took all three players through the disciplinary points limit. The suspensions have to be confirmed by the leaderless SFA but Murray is in line for a three game ban, which will end his season after the Rangers game. McBride and McCormack should be eligible to face Walter Smith's champions elect but would then sit out the visit of Hearts.Hughes knows that with skipper Chris Hogg struggling to overcome a back problem which has seen him miss five of Hibs last seven games, the removal of Bamba and Murray will leave him with a threadbare defence as Jim Jefferies brings the Jambos across town. Hughes said: "I'm not 100 per cent sure as yet as to the position, we'll have to wait until the SFA confirm things. But if that is the case there's nothing we can do about it and they'll be sorely missed. It's disappointing, you talk to the players and emphasise the point in terms of bookings, tell them to watch what they are doing, but they are out there competing, looking to win their tackles."
