No Choice Given To Mehmet

St Mirren are not that great at personnel matters it would appear. Billy Mehmet confirmed St Mirren didn't offer him new terms to stay with the Paisley club so his hand was forced to look to his own future. The striker's five-year  stay at St Mirren Park ended when he recently agreed a lucrative deal with Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi. Mehmet insists he never asked to leave the SPL club, but has confirmed they didn't offer him the option of staying on. He said: "Nothing was said to me about a new contract. If nothing ever gets said you have to try to sort something out for yourself. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Scotland and loved being at St Mirren. Never once did I ask to leave or say I wanted to leave. I also know the gaffer wanted to keep me but there was nothing there for me from the club. The gaffer was brilliant. He kept working with us and we knew we could chat to him. I had a great relationship with the people at the club and the fans. I didn't want to go and it was definitely hard after the last game against Aberdeen last weekend. I was waving to the fans and I wasn't sure even then that it was a goodbye. I really want to say thank you to the supporters and everyone at the club because it has been a vital part of my career and I have some great memories."
