New Ambitious Project For Website

Clubs do it and now fan sites are getting into the act of broadcasting on the net.

New media covering football has come a long way from the badly photocopied A4 sheets stapled together and sold by scallies at the game at the weekend. Technology has progressed at a dramatic pace and the advent of the net has allowed fanzines to develop into instant reactions via   mailing lists and now websites to be available to those into football. Some of the older media formats have been a tad slow at recognising that there is a lot of talented people out there with opinions and voices worth listening to. On this site we did have a net radio station for about a year and half but due to changes in copyright bills and lack of time to fully commit to the project, we had to take it off the air. However, one ambitious website, Scotzineis about to embark on ambitious plans to broadcast games on the net on a weekly basis. As Sky and the main terrestrial channels have the clout to make the men's professional game their fiefdom, Scotzine are testing the waters with women's football. Thursday will not only see the first women's Champion's league last 16 game being played in Scotland but also the first broadcast by ScotzineTV set-up of the game. Turbine Potsdam are the visitors who are arriving with a 10-0 advantage when they meet Glasgow City on Thursday. The commentators will have to tackle the Germans names but that will be the least of the Scotzine team's worries I am sure.  This is not a one-off 'see how clever we are' arrangement. Editor Andy Muirhead has also secured non-exclusive rights to the Henson Projects Scottish Cup final on Sunday between Hibernian and Glasgow City. He will have Rachael Small, Forfar Farmington and Scotland defender, alongside commentator Gareth Llewellyn to offer expert analysis as the game is played. Muirhead is already in advanced discussion with Maureen McGonigle, Executive Administrator at Scottish Women's Football, about covering the league programme next season. The ambitious project will challenge Muirhead and his team on the technical and logistical side of things. However, it is something to be watched with interest as local and net TV could well be the next big thing. Give it a go and support Scotzine as they try something new.
