Never Look Back With Regret

Rangers recent history has saddened some of their ex-players

Ex-Rangers players cannot get away from being asked about the plight of the old club and Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the latest to offer views. He is confident Rangers will get back into the SPL. Rangers have made progress since having to start again in Division Three after financial problems saw the club forced into administration and, subsequently, liquidation. This is not the sort of situation that had to be endured during the period Van Bronckhorst played at Ibrox, between 1998 and 2001, and he has been saddened by their plight. But he has kept tabs on his former club and says the spirit to succeed is still strong. He said: "I talk with some ex-players now and then. I read the papers and follow the stories so I know it has been quite a hectic time for the club. It is a bit sad to see but everyone is behind the club again. The fans are just trying to get the club back to the highest level as soon as possible. I think the spirit is still in the club and in the team. That is the most important thing. It is not nice to see the club play at such a low level."The delights of retirement are being enjoyed by the Dutchman and he has not been tempted to come back and play again. He went on: "I am happy that I was able to stop at the peak of my career, the World Cup final. That being my last game is amazing, of course, even though we didn't win it. I left at the highest level, the biggest stage, so for me I never had any moments after retiring that I wanted to come back."
