Never Argue With The Big Man

You have to be careful who you support when in a bar. Any bar. Last week I saw the first of the Arsenal v Barcelona cup ties but I only saw the second half of the match. I had arrived Spanish late for the match in time for the second half kick off and to be confused into thinking that Arsenal were playing in their yellow away strips. My confusion was compounded when the “yellow” team scored straight from kick off and being as nearly all locals hate Barcelona I had expected more than the one shout of goal to go up in the Bar.I was corrected (by my daughter) during the replays of the goal that it was in fact Barca that had scored - which explained why only one shout had gone up. I sought out the Barca fan who had been brave enough to shout Goal! (the equivalent of a Rangers fan in a Celtic Bar). There were 2 reasons why he felt confident enough to feel he could support his team in a Real Madrid Bar. Firstly, the locals are all good natured and well mannered but perhaps more significantly the Barca fan was a local body builder and was built like an oak tree. He was a nice guy and took it on his Desperate Dan chin when Barca’s eventual 2 goal lead was pegged back to a draw and a player (my favourite full back in the world) was sent off.“It’s only half time, no problema para Barca quando en Espana!” He told me. “Si” I replied, not only genuinely agreeing with him but who would argue with a man mountain (even in a Rangers Bar).
