Never A Dull Day At Fir Park

Stuart McCall did consider pulling out some electrical wires last night as his side lost out to Hibs in controversial circumstances

You always appear to get something unusual happening at Fir Park these days. Last night controversy reigned as Hibs ran out 4-0 winners with disputed penalties and a disallowed goal. Goalkeeper Ben Williams was not giving anything away regarding a ball he appeared to drag back over the line as referee Stevie O'Reilly and assistant Francis Andrews failed to see Stevie Hammell's header bouncing clearly over the line. Williams said afterwards: "It wasn't my decision to make. I'll just make the save and leave the decisions to the referee and linesman. We defended very well and the scoreline probably doesn't reflect how well they (Motherwell) played." Hibs top scorer Leigh Griffiths scored twice from the penalty spot to help his side move back to second place. He said: "The second goal killed it a wee bit. We got a massive boost from them missing the penalty. Not many teams will come here and win 4-0." Manager Pat Fenlon was pleased to see his team's over all performance. He said: "I'm not sure we deserved to win 4-0 but we won the game and it's a massive three points for us. Defensively we were rock solid tonight and looked a decent side. I'm pleased for the players because they've done a massive amount of work to get where they are." On Well's contentious 'goal' Fenlon added: "I haven't seen it. The boys said it's in but I'll need to see it before I make a comment on it. We've had decisions go against us. You have to move on...we're not critical of officials. We worked hard to get the result and the players' attitude was fantastic. There was a great work ethic from everybody." Well manager Stuart McCall said: "I can't believe we've not scored a goal - everything that could go wrong did. The linesman's guaranteed me 'no way it's over the line' but you can see it's a clear foot over the line. And the infringement was outside the box for the penalty (Hibs' third goal) - the linesman's had a good night...Will I get an apology? I doubt it. I hate whingeing about refs and linesmen but clearly they cost us at big times in the game tonight. It sounds like sour grapes but fair play to Hibs. We played a lot of good stuff and created a lot of chances but we need to start scoring goals or we'll never win matches."
