Murray On The Sidelines Now

A frustrating period ahead for Hugh Murray Just after breaking the club appearance record of Tony Fitzpatrick,  midfielder Hugh Murray will now have to sit out for around four months with a knee injury. St Mirren's Murray was carried off on a stretcher moments into his club-record 459th appearance last Monday after sliding in on Hamilton's Jim McAlister. Saints manager Danny Lennon said: "Hugh Murray is going down to London to see the specialist as we speak. He has had his scan, there is a bit of cartilage damage, there is a little bit of damage to his PCL (posterior cruciate ligament). But we hope it's not as bad as it could have been with the nature of the incident. He is going down there to see the specialist to see if there is any surgery required, mainly on the cartilage, but we're very hopeful he'll be okay. We've been given an indication by the medical team of round about three or four months."  Murray, like the vast majority of his team-mates, is out of contract at the end of the season. No new deals have been agreed with Lennon as he waits to see their SPL status decided before building for the future. Lennon said: "It's a worrying time for everyone at the club. As I keep saying to them, the quicker we can get over the finishing line the quicker we can secure people's futures and their families' futures. It's very disappointing to lose an influential player in the way that Shuggie Murray has been playing since the turn of the year, but if there is a good time to get one from Shuggie Murray's point of view, it's when the close season is coming up."
