More To A Team Than One Man
Resting the star player allowed Pat Fenlon see others make their case for inclusion in the cup final squad.
Pat Fenlon was pleased to see his Hibs side prove they are more than a one-player team as they ran out 3-1 winners at Kilmarnock without Leigh Griffiths in the squad. Griffiths was left out for the re-arranged SPL game at Rugby Park last night, and Eoin Doyle's late double ensured all three points were packed away for the trip back to Edinburgh. Killie had come back to equalise through Lee Ashcroft which cancelled out Scott Robertson's early goal for the visitors.Fenlon said: "That comes from the press to say we are a one-man team. We've got goals from other players in the team as well and I was delighted for Doyle because he worked tremendously hard and got his rewards in the end. He put in a hard shift and stuff didn't come off for him probably over most of the game, and then he got two chances and took them well. He had one disallowed as well. I'm delighted for him because he puts in a great shift every time he plays and he's got the rewards at the end of the game tonight."Griffiths was rested in view of the upcoming Scottish Cup final against Celtic on 26 May, but Doyle's performance could earn him a place in Fenlon's starting line-up. The Hibs manager went on: "They are all in my thoughts. That's what I said to them when we qualified, that we've got a few league games left and to make sure they give me a headache for picking a squad. We want to finish in seventh and if we win on Saturday we can do that now. So that will be a plus as well."Griffiths was not downhearted about getting the day off as Fenlon said: "He's grand, he's okay. We gave him the night off, we didn't bring him so we could rest him. He will be back in training on Friday and I'm sure he will be raring to go at the weekend."
