Monday Manouvers

TV pays the money so they get to call the kick-off times. Monday's game will not be popular in Aberdeen

Aberdeen and their fans will be setting their satnavs to McDairmid Park for tomorrow's night's game with St Johnstone. Not the sort of thing you look forward to on a Monday evening. The Dons manager has already had to change his preparations for the weekend game to suit the fixture, which has been re-scheduled to accommodate live television. Brown is now worried about those who will be following his side to Perth. He said: "We are getting used to playing at what I would call non-traditional kick-off times. We have had a Friday night kick-off against Dunfermline and a lunchtime kick-off against Rangers and now we have a Monday night kick-off. It doesn't matter to the players, but I feel sorry for the fans. This is one of the closest away grounds to Aberdeen but still the fans won't be back home until midnight. But if we take the TV money we have to put up with it."  The delay in the playing the game did allow the players to enjoy to the full Darren Mackie's testimonial dinner on Thursday night. Speaking yesterday, Brown went on: "The players were in training yesterday and we will be in today. Coincidentally, Darren Mackie's testimonial dinner was on Thursday night so we gave the players Friday off and they were allowed to stay until the end. If it had been a weekend game they would have had to leave early so in that respect the SPL helped us." The Dons, second bottom of the SPL, are looking for a first away win of the season when they travel to Perth. Wins over Dunfermline and Dundee United in successive home games came before losses to Celtic and Rangers and Brown is determined to get back on track. This will be Steve Lomas' first game in charge of St Johnstone after he was appointed successor to Derek McInnes last week was who moved to Bristol City. However, the Dons manager does not expect any radical change in the way the Perth side will line up or play. Brown said: "The team could play itself, they have had such consistency of selection. If it is not broken then don't fix it and it isn't broken. They have had such consistency of selection. So initially, it is just a maintenance job for Steve Lomas. We played them at the start of the season and it was a goalless draw but we hit the woodwork twice and were reduced to 10 men for the last half-hour. However, that game proved that they are a very good side. I was disappointed that we didn't take anything off the Old Firm clubs in the last two games and so we want to make up for it tomorrow night."
