Mis-match In Valuations For Cuellar

Rangers will have to mdig deep to bring Carlos Cuellar back to Ibrox. Rangers manager Ally McCoist is 'keen' to lure Carlos Cuellar back from Aston Villa to Rangers, however, it is unlikely that any offer will match Villa's £3m valuation. Cuellar left Ibrox to join Villa in 2008 and has made over 100 appearances since for the Premier League club. However, his future at Villa Park is uncertain following former Rangers manager Alex McLeish's appointment as manager. Rangers have already had offer of £1.5m rejected. Reports suggest Villa want double that amount to sanction Cuellar's sale, but McCoist doubts Rangers will offer anything like that for the Spaniard. McCoist said: "Gordon Smith (director of football) has been talking to Aston Villa about Carlos. I'm very keen for that deal to go through, but I don't think we'd be going as far as £3million to make it happen." It had been suggested that Christophe Berra could be a suitable alternative but McCoist says he will not be following up an interest in Wolves' centre-half. He said: "He was a player we looked at but won't be pursuing."
