Mid-table Madness For Morton Again

22 February 2011 06:26
Morton get the chance to overtake tonight's opponents Morton need to get over losing 4-0 to Queen of the South and catch back up with the Doonhamers when they meet Partick Thistle tonight. Morton manager Allan Moore has no injury or suspension worries ahead of the visit of Partick but will need all his powers of persuasion to lift his squad following the club's heaviest home defeat (against Queen of the South) in nearly five years. Moore said: "We were outdone far too easily at the weekend and we can't allow that to happen again. We had been on a reasonable run until Saturday and had started to climb the table so we will put it down to a bad day at the office and look to get going again. Despite that bad result, a win over Thistle would lift us back into fifth place in the table.''   PO TEAM P W D L F A GD Pts 1 Raith Rovers 22 12 6 4 31 16 15 42 2 Dunfermline 21 11 5 5 38 20 18 38 3 Falkirk 20 10 3 7 36 22 14 33 4 Queen of the South 18 8 3 7 29 23 6 27 5 Partick 20 6 6 8 24 26 -2 24 6 Morton 21 6 6 9 21 24 -3 24 7 Dundee 22 13 6 3 32 16 16 20 8 Cowdenbeath 20 5 3 12 22 45 -23 18 9 Ross County 20 3 8 9 14 24 -10 17 10 Stirling 20 3 4 13 17 48 -31 13 Partick manager Ian McCall adds Willie Kinniburgh to his squad after the centre-back recovered from the flu bug that swept Firhill last week. The Jags are wary of facing another side that has just been heavily beaten, as assistant manager Ian Maxwell explained: "We faced Cowdenbeath last midweek immediately after they had gone down 4-0 to Dunfermline and they came out and fought for everything. I would imagine Morton will be the same after their result at the weekend, so we know how tough it is going to be. We lost down there earlier this season when we put in a fairly abject performance, so it would be nice to erase the memories of that with a win.''
