McLeish Report: Part II
Just how much of the SPL's thunder will Henry McLeish m,anage to steal in part two of his review? Former First Minister, Henry McLeish will publish the findings of part two of his review of Scottish football today. The second phase of the report will focus on structures, leadership and governance within the game. The first part of the former First Minister's review was published in April and primarily looked at and made recommendations about the grassroots of the game in Scotland. The 74-page document, which was commissioned in May 2009 by SFA president George Peat, made a series of recommendations aimed at improving Scottish football. Among them was a call for almost £500million to be spent on facilities for youth and talent development over the next 10 years, with McLeish claiming Scottish football was in "crisis" in terms of facilities and infrastructure. McLeish's findings will be announced before the 12 SPL clubs meet on Monday to discuss wide-ranging reform of the domestic game proposed by the SPL's own strategic review group. These proposals will include the introduction of a two-tier SPL with 10 teams in each division, the scrapping of the controversial league split and an earlier start to the season coupled with a winter break.
