McGuigan Makes His Mark

You just never know when opportunity will knock

Mark McGuigan scored twice for the Scottish University side in a bounce game against Partick Thistle. The Jags were so impressed with the 6 foot 4 inch striker that manager Jackie McNamara offered him a short term deal until the end of the season. This gives both sides the opportunity to see if he has what it takes to survive in the senior game. McGuigan was with Celtic as a youngster before moving on to study for a an Honours degree in Physical Activity and Health at Abertay University. He is due to graduate so this opportunity could not have been better timed for McGuigan who made a 15 minute appearance as a substitute against Livingston at the weekend.

Firhill manager McNamara said: "Mark has played Junior and amateur football but he really caught our eye in a bounce game against the Scottish Universities team when he scored twice and gave our defence a really hard time. He has trained with us since that game and has continued to look good and he with his height he has the physical attributes that we are looking for, as he offers something that we have perhaps lacked up front. I am looking forward to seeing what Mark can do for us between now and the end of the season."
