McGregor focused on Scotland

Allan McGregor insists he is fully focused and looking forward to Scotland's friendly against Slovenia despite the financial turmoil engulfing his club right now.

The Rangers goalkeeper joined up with the rest of the national team after playing his part in Sunday's 4-1 win over Inverness in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. The continental trip will no doubt provide some welcome respite from the issues facing the Scottish champions after they were forced into administration on February 14.

Asked if Wednesday's match in Slovenia will be a welcome break at a difficult time, McGregor would only say: "It's always an honour to come away and play for your country whenever it is."

He added: "I'm just proud to be here. I'm just here to play for Scotland at the moment. It's just one of those things.

"Every time I come away with Scotland, it's an honour to play. Hopefully on Wednesday night, it's the same thing."

Scotland assistant manager Peter Houston has no fears about McGregor's mental state ahead of the international friendly, saying: "Allan is a great professional. He is maturing brilliantly and he is a fantastic goalkeeper.

"He has been a top player for Scotland, certainly since I've been involved here with Craig. There are problems but he will put them to the back of his head. These guys are only thinking of one thing this week and that's the Scotland team."

On Rangers' financial troubles, the Dundee United boss added: "Personally, I would rather not talk about it because we are trying to get away from that this week and certainly take Allan's mind off it by concentrating fully on the Scotland game.

"Allan has not mentioned anything. He came in last night and he was upbeat, simply because of the fantastic performance and result for Rangers yesterday.

"He will put it to the back of his mind but it's a horrible situation, there is no getting away from that. Who knows what will happen? But, at this particular moment in time, it's probably best that I don't comment on that, being another club manager in the SPL."
