McGregor Learnt His Lesson

05 July 2011 11:42
Allan McGregor had to grow up quickly when Walter Smith wanted to see him ater the 'Boozegate' affair. Allan McGregor feared that his footballing career was over in the aftermath of the 'Boozegate' affair. Rangers manager Walter Smith, however, gave McGregor a second chance in 2009. Yesterday it was announced that he had signed a six-year contract that will effectively see him finish his career with Rangers. McGregor and team-mate Barry Ferguson had been caught making V-signs on camera and were also accused of all-night drinking at a hotel while with the Scottish national side. Ferguson left for Birmingham but Smith gave McGregor a second chance.  McGregor said: "I was glad to get back in the team at the start of the following season and I was obviously grateful to Walter for that. But those first few weeks after what happened were difficult. As soon as I came back to training I got my head down and worked away. Whatever's happened I've always been focused at training and playing. It was a big change from when he pulled me in immediately after the Scotland game - when I saw a scary side to him. Obviously you listen to him. He has been there, done it and worn the T-shirt when it comes to management. I respected him and what he said and took it on board."
