McGonigal Looking For Development

Youth development cannot be ignored if you want to have players for the future Allan McGonigal has been confirmed as the new under-19 manager at SPL Hamilton just a month after leading Junior side Bo’ness to their first league title in 41 years. Former Berwick Rangers’ manager, McGonigal, who was a striker in his playing days with Meadowbank, Falkirk, Cowdenbeath, East Fife and East Stirlingshire, was assistant manager at Dumbarton, Forfar and Stenhousemuir before success at Camelon saw him land the top job at Shielfield in the summer of 2008. His stay there was brief and McGonigal was appointed manager at Newtown Park a year ago. McGonigal said: “Hamilton have been at the forefront of youth development in Scotland for a number of years and my role is to help keep that going. Many clubs may be cutting back on their youth programmes, however in my discussions with the Chairman here, Ronnie MacDonald, he emphasised Hamilton’s commitment to youth.”This is the first time McGonigal has worked at a full time club in his career, although he will not be leaving Bo’ness in the lurch with his move. He plans to keep an eye on them as well for the time being. He said: “I will prepare Bo’ness for the new season whilst doing the Hamilton job as well. The SPL youth games are on a Friday so I can help at Newtown just now but I will make a call about whether that is the best course of action for Hamilton, Bo’ness and myself once the competitive actions starts.” Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
