McGhee Make It Through The Season

A break from fans abuse will be enjoyed by Mark McGhee. He promises changes for next season. For his sake I hope they are for the better. Aberdeen's Mark McGhee was glad to see the back of season 2009-10 with the final whistle being blown on Saturday. The Dons boss summed up his side's season as " rubbish". He has had to endure many a long walk back from the dugout listening to the ire and much worse pouring down from the stands since he took over from Jimmy Calderwood. The former Dons striker promised radical changes to his squad during the summer transfer window. With an eye on these changes and on the future, McGhee used the final game of the season, a win against St Mirren, to give 17-year-old striker Dominic Gibson a debut and 16-year-old midfielder Clark Robertson his first start and he took heart for the future from the teenagers' respective performances.   McGhee said: "I thought Dominic did well. I said to him before the game not to worry too much about how he played. He obviously wanted to play well and score on his debut but more than anything I was making it a benchmark for him, so that he can go away and say 'this is where I am and this is how far I have to go to before I can realistically be a first team player'. So that was a good exercise and he can start pre-season with that in his mind. Clark has been involved a couple of times and he is the one out of all the youth team players at the moment who has done the best and has looked promising. So he is maybe a little bit closer than Dominic." Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba net)This is Scottish-Fitba Net
