Lennon: No Need To Sell

Danny Lennon can hang onto his players as the books are in good shape in Paisley

Danny Lennon is happy in the knowledge that St Mirren do not need to sell their players unless offers in the Godfather category come along. Kenny McLean, Paul McGowan and Graham Carey are among those who have impressed for Saints this season, and Lennon is keen to build for the future. He said: "I welcome anybody to come to our football club and have a look at us and see what we are doing and what we've got. We've got young talent as well as good experienced players. The balance is good. We are a club that is going to develop homegrown talent, young lads. St Mirren will always be a selling club but we are very fortunate at this moment in time, with the facilities we have and the wonderful board that we have, that we are debt-free. If anybody comes in and the deal isn't right for us, then we are not in the position where we have to sell. We have these lads on lengthy contracts as well so it's looking good for us. I want to keep all the quality players we are producing and I want to continue to build upon the success we are having. I would be disappointed if there wasn't interest from bigger clubs with the quality of these players. But we are not in a position where we have to sell. Sometimes when finances come into it, it's taken out of the manager's hands but I'm here to build something." Meanwhile, Saints have confirmed that defender Illias Haddad has left the club. His deal was due to expire at the start of the New Year after an offer of a  contract extension was taken off the table. A statement from the club said: "All at the club would like to thank Illias for his services to the club and to wish him all the best in his future endeavours."
