Lennon Looking For A Win

14 November 2010 10:24
Neil Lennon will be looking to bounce back while is namesake, Danny, will be looking to build on Wednesday's result St Mirren defender David Van Zanten and his teammates are still enjoying that winning feeling over Celtic from last season's 4-0 home win over which ended Tony Mowbray's time as manager at Parkhead. Van Zanten returned to St Mirren in the summer after a spell at Hibs and was quickly brought up to speed on the famous win which Celtic will be looking to avenge at New St Mirren Park today. He said: "I wasn't here for that game but the players have been speaking about it since I rejoined to be honest. They can't let go of it. Obviously it was a great result for the lads, especially after disappointment of losing the Co-op Cup final to Rangers days before. Results like that don't happen often. Everyone else will look at as a freak result. But it gives us a little bit of confidence that things like that can happen and we will keep our fingers crossed for Sunday. We obviously know that we will have to be at our best to get something from the game.'' Saints go in the game buoyed by their first away win of the season against Dundee United and Van Zanten went on: "Nobody, apart from ourselves, thought we could get a win on Wednesday and we will take confidence from that. There has been a big turnover of players in the summer and the lads are getting to know each other now.'' St Mirren manager Danny Lennon, who took up his post at the Paisley club in the summer, remembers better the second week of the season when his side were non-runners in a 4-0 defeat at Parkhead. He said: "They were absolutely terrific to watch and the only consolation that day was that I didn't have to pay to get in to watch it. They have that within them so we have to play to our strengths and our strength is our hard work ethic. We have learned from the defeat against Rangers last week that against the Old Firm you have got to be concentrated for 90 minutes. But we are positive and very upbeat.'' Celtic striker Georgios Samaras is well aware of the shock value of Celtic and Rangers getting beaten creates. However, as Wednesday's results showed, he knows that every team can beat every other team in the league. There is no chance of any side remaining unbeaten for the rest of the season so we should get used to seeing the Old Firm going down from time to time. He said: "It was a good opportunity for us on Wednesday to go first in the table but trust me, there is a lot of twists and turns until the end of the season and both teams will lose points, that's for sure. There's still nearly 30 games remaining, it's not possible to win all the games. We must forget what happened against Hearts. It's in the past and we are looking forward. I don't want to make any excuses, say what was wrong or what was bad, all I want to do is focus on the next game. When you lose a game it is not the best feeling but there is always the next day in football and all we can do is focus for the next game against St Mirren away.'' Celtic manager, Neil Lennon does not expect an easy afternoon against the Buddies. The Irishman said: "They had a good result at Dundee United and you seen by the results the other night that any team can beat any other team on any given day. There was a lot of surprise results. Danny has done a decent job there. It has been difficult, he's had to bring new players in to a different level of the Scottish game but I'm sure he would have been delighted with the result against United because it is a difficult place to go.''
