Keep The Faith Peter

Danny Swanson is pleased to still be in the Dundee United side that could be sneaking up on the rails for third spot. Danny Swanson is determined to show his appreciation to Dundee United manager Peter Houston for showing faith in him and keeping him in the team. The midfielder started paying back the faith by scoring the goal which allowed United to build up to snatch a dramatic late win at St Mirren on Saturday. Swanson has promised to maintain his form and demonstrate why he deserves to remain in Houston's plans. He said: "This is the longest I've had in the team. I've been in and out of the team and I've found it hard to nail down a starting place because of the players we've got here. But I think I've been playing well and the manager has stuck by me. Even when I've had a few poor games, he has kept me in the team and I'd like to thank him for that. Hopefully I can keep going." The 2-1 win in Paisley allowed United to move closer to Hibs and Swanson insists the race for third spot is still wide open.  Hibs still lead by one point and have a game in hand. Swanson is happy for United to stay under the radar of publicity and allow Hibs to claim all the plaudits, including being mentioned as potential title challengers, while Dundee United quietly go about their own business. He said: "We have shown we are as good as Hibs. We beat Hibs already, we just need to get the consistency going. We are missing a lot of good players, a lot of important players, but we've still ground out some good points, like here, which is a difficult place to come to. It's probably better and takes the pressure off us because Hibs are expected to finish third with the players they've got and the players they have brought in. We are just happy to sneak in." Swanson scored with only seven minutes to go to cancel out Michael Higdon's opener before substitute David Goodwillie snatched the winner deep into injury time. Swanson admitted: "I think we probably got more than we deserved. We weren't great in the first half - in fact, we weren't great for the whole game. But if you are playing poorly and still get the result it's brilliant so I'm just delighted about that. It's a hard place to come to so we are delighted with the win and I'm just happy for the boys because we had to pick up the standard from the game against Hamilton midweek (a 2-0 defeat)."
