Just What the Doctor Ordered

How can you top scoring on your home debut for your country? Robert Snodgrass was still walking on air enjoying the "magic feeling" of scoring the winning goal on his first start for Scotland. The former Livingston player's diving header just before half-time earned Scotland a 2-1 win over Denmark in a friendly at a soaking Hampden. Snodgrass, who was making his home debut to win his third cap, got on the end of Kenny Miller's deep cross to give Scotland a boost ahead of next month's EURO2012 qualifiers. He said: "The manager said to me before the game to try to get in at the back post and get yourself a goal. I gambled and it was a magnificent ball from Kenny and I just had to stick my head to it really. It was a magic feeling, playing in front of your country and live on Sky for the rest of the country to watch it. My parents couldn't make it but there were a few of my family here including my brother and my daughter so that was great. It's about getting the victory; that's what you set out to do. That's what we did as a team, I think we did well tonight. It was a good test for the games coming up against the Czechs and Lithuania. People criticise friendlies but you have a job to do for your country and the manager wants to see the players on a regular basis. Every friendly is a good chance for us to gel as a side and I think we're shaping up well.We have some good young talent coming through."
