Jordan baffled by friendly date

Scotland legend Joe Jordan believes the scheduling of the friendly against Sweden on Wednesday is illogical.

The international date has disrupted the preparations of top-flight clubs north and south of the border who will start their domestic season this weekend.

Speaking at Hampden to promote ESPN's live broadcast of the game in Stockholm, and the start of the Scottish and English Premier League seasons, the Tottenham assistant manager said: "I don't think it's a good date for anyone, the clubs down in England, the clubs up here and the players as well. I don't grasp the logic of it at all."

He added: "I have worked with the (Tottenham) lads now for the last month, maybe more.

"Yes, they are fit, but you have a degree of fitness and then you go and play games and you build up those games.

"There's nothing that has really changed over the years.

"You build it up and then you gauge the opposition. You hope you get it right.

"Now we are talking about an international. International football is the highest level you can play.

"So with the players going in there, you just hope they have done enough, not just in their pre-season training but also in the games that they have played."
