You can no longer just expect young people to turn up at football. You have to encourage the habit. Stranraer want to invest in their own future so have dug deep and are encouraging the next generation of fans to get into the habit of coming along to the football by giving out a free season ticket to the 1,500 Primary 5, 6 and 7 school children in their local area. There will also be discounted season tickets priced ar £30 or individual game admission for £2 to all pupils at Stranraer Academy as they look to get a larger proportion of the local population supporting Manager Keith Knox’s side. Committee member Iain Dougan said: “Crowds are a real worry to the club and measures had to be taken to secure our fan base of the future. If we encourage the youngsters to come along now and feel part of the club many will be supporters for life”. Knox along with several first team players and club mascot Scooby Blue have been touring every local primary school handing out the free briefs which will allow entry to all 18 league games next season. Dougan went on: “We have tried various ideas including free entry for kids with a paying adult but if the adult does not want to come the child misses out, so this initiative has no strings attached.” The club have also made plans for this primary school pupils outwith Primary 5 as they will also receive free admission but for safety reasons must be accompanied by an adult Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba.net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
