Houston Signs New Keeper

Published: 10 Feb 2012 - 10:29:02

Dundee United fans will have to wait to see the new number one in action

Dundee United manager Peter Houston has started his plans for next season by signing Polish goalkeeper Radoslav Cierzniak on a pre-contract. A two-year deal with the option of a further year has been agreed after Cierzniak impressed Houston on trial. The 'keeper will join the club in the summer, when current number one Dusan Pernis is expected to leave. Cierzniak has one cap for Poland to his name and has recently been playing for Alki Larnaca in Cyprus. Houston said: "I liked what I saw of Radoslav during his time at the club and (goalkeeping coach) Steve Banks worked very closely with him for a week. Steve liked what he saw and confirmed he has all the attributes you look for in a goalkeeper. He showed good hands, he was comfortable with the ball at his feet, proved to be a strong communicator and above all looks an excellent shot-stopper. It is our belief that he will be a great success here at United and someone our fans will warm to immediately. This signing will again show supporters that we are continually trying to look to the future and enhance our squad at all times."
