Houston Set For United Deal

Positive talks between Peter Houston and Stephen Thompson Third place in the league and the Scottish Cup safely tucked away in the United trophy room, Dundee United look set to appoint Peter Houston as manager on a permanent role. Since taking over from Craig Levein in December on an interim basis, Houston has made it clear that he wanted the job full time. However, after only one game in charge Houston’s United faced Rangers and were soundly thumped 7-1. At that time he indicated that he didn’t want the job on a permanent basis. After a few ups and downs, good and bad performances he managed to steer United to finish third in the league and nine points clear of their nearest rivals Hibernian. Chairman Stephen Thompson said: "It’s easy to see that being third in the league and winning the Scottish Cup, He’s obviously capable of doing the job. He wants the job and I’m not speaking to anyone else, so I think that says a lot in itself. Hopefully, we can resolve things in the next few days."  Thompson went on to say: "We’ve got a few bits and pieces to sort out. I don’t think there’s anything that’s going to be a major problem. We’ve already spoken this morning about pre-season and that kind of thing – that’s the way we’re both talking. We spoke this week about a couple of players, possible players to come in. So we’re talking as though we’re both working together next year. I’d like to think it’ll happen. I’d like to think I’ll be able to speak to you again about Peter in a few days time as manager."With Houston wanting the job and with the backing of the chairman it looks like this will be an easy appointment. One issue to be resolved however, is his role as assistant to Craig Levein in the Scotland job; he clearly would like to continue in that role, and has stated that he has an excellent coaching team at United who will carry on with the work while he is away on Scotland duty. The Arab fans clearly want and expect Houston as manager .They are more concerned with what players will be there in August, with Andy Webster returning to Rangers and Kenneth, Gomis and Conway all being linked to English clubs.  Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)Admin Team (admin@scottishfitba.net)This is Scottish-Fitba.Net
