Scotland are facing a near impossible task if they want to qualify for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. Despite the change of manager, it is the players on the field that will be the only ones that can do anything about the position at the bottom of qualifying group A starting on Friday against Wales. This will be the first competitive game with Gordon Strachan in charge after opening his Scotland account with a 1-0 win over Estonia at Pittodrie. Wigan midfielder James McArthur hopes to help the manager get off to a winning start against the Welsh at Hampden Park on Friday.McArthur said: "He seems a very good manager and he's a very good man. Hopefully he can kick us on, but at the end of the day it's down to us players. He can do everything, he can set us up properly but we need to do it as players. It's the same as the previous manager and we didn't do that and hopefully we can turn that around with the new manager."McArthur is not giving up on Scotland's World Cup hopes despite sitting eight points behind leading pair Belgium and Croatia. He went on: "As players we need to do it on the park and we have not in previous games, and we need to turn it round, and we need to go into Wales (game) and try and get the three points. Obviously a lot of people will be saying we are already out of the qualifiers, but all we can do is win games and see where it takes us."
