Honest Assesment From Butcher

Sometime you just have to have a good honest look at how you are performing to recognise why you are at the bottom of the league.

Terry Butcher is understandably not best pleased with where he spots his Inverness side when he considers the SPL table. Caledonian Thistle have failed to keep a clean sheet this season and are one point behind Aberdeen at the bottom of the league.

He wants his players to cut out the basic errors which have resulted in the unfortunate position. He said: "We're not good enough because we're going into December without a single clean sheet to our name after 17 games.

People point out that we've had plenty of possession and we're not getting hammered by teams, but that's absolutely no consolation. On average we're conceding two goals a game, which is rubbish. There's no point in saying how much of the game we had if we're not taking chances at one end and leaking goals at the other. We need to eliminate the simple mistakes if we're to claw our way away from the bottom of the table.

It would be good to see much greater focus and concentration at St Mirren. Saints have done well this season but we've played most of our best football away from home so it's time to cut out the errors and start picking up points.

"While looking forward to an opportunity to pick up points in Paisley at the weekend, Butcher has doubts over defenders Josh Meekings and David Proctor after they suffered injuries in the 2-1 defeat at Tynecastle.

Butcher said: "We're keeping our fingers crossed that Josh and David will respond to treatment. I'm hopeful they'll be okay for Saturday, but we'll need to see how they progress." Owain Tudur Jones, meanwhile, is making progress in his recovery from a knee injury in August. Butcher added: "Owain's desperate to get back playing and I'm pleased with the progress he is now making. Hopefully it won't be too long before we see him back in action."
