Hearts Leave Financial Worries This Side Of The Whitelines

Hearts players are only focussed on football when they are stripped and ready for action

The state of morale is high in Tynecastle despite financial uncertainty, according to defender Ryan McGowan. Wages due on 16 December are still unpaid and First-team players have been given no information on when they will receive them after major delays in their previous two monthly payments. Midfielder Ryan Stevenson has withdrawn his services in protest, but McGowan claims there are no unhappy players at the club. Speaking ahead of tonight's game with Aberdeen, he said: "There's a lot been made out that people are not happy, but in the changing rooms I haven't seen one unhappy face. All of us are focused on what we have to do. The main thing is we're football players, so that's what we want to do - play football and win games." If you look at the results of recent Hearts games, it would appear that the players are more than meeting their end of their contracts with the side scoring six goals without reply in their two most recent game against Dunfermline and Motherwell. McGowan went on: "Hopefully we can get a run of results together and put on a lot of pressure and try to get third by the end of the season. Wherever we go we're looking for three points. If we play our game we're a match for anyone." Aberdeen manager Craig Brown does not expect tonight's visitors financial problems to affect their performance tonight. Brown said: "The players will leave their worries off the park. For most players, their job is their hobby. Players like to play football and it is the best remedy or antidote for their problems off the field. They obviously have worries about not getting paid but playing football is when they will forget them and I expect that to be the same when they play us."
