Ross County manager Derek Adams will be glad he decided to call it quits on his time as assistant manager at Easter Road and head back to Dingwall now that promotion to the top flight has been secured. He paid tribute to his players after nearest rivals Dundee were held to a 1-1 draw by Queen of the South, leaving them 14 points behind First Division leaders County. There are only four games left which means Adams' side can celebrate promotion ahead of tonight's night's game with Ayr United at Somerset Park. The former Highland League side, who were admitted to the Scottish Football League in 1994, will make their SPL debut next season but have already made their mark at the highest level by reaching the 2010 Scottish Cup final, where they lost to Dundee United. Adams said: "We have achieved our dream of playing in the SPL - it's just a fabulous night. There will be great celebrations among many County fans scattered all over the country. It's a good night for everyone at the club, but especially the players. They have had a fantastic season and deserve a lot of credit for that. I'm proud of them. It's a new era for County and for football in the Highlands also. It's great there will be two Highland teams, Inverness and Ross County, in the SPL next season."
