Hasselbaink One To Watch

Nigel Hasselbaink impressed his new manager Billy Reid and he expects there is more to come. Hamilton manager Billy Reid expects new striker Nigel Hasselbaink to terrorise more defenders after his debut in Saturday's 1-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The Dutchman - who is the nephew of former Chelsea forward Jimmy Floyd and sign from PSV Eindhoven last week - impressed in Accies' first league win of the season. Former Inverness midfielder Dougie Imrie scored the only goal of the game with a 30-yard shot after just 38 seconds, but the new teenage attacker showed enough pace and power not to look out of place in Scotland's top flight. Reid said: "I thought Nigel Hasselbaink all day looked a major, major threat. He's 19 years old and I threw him in today and what a shift he gave us. He's a fantastic young talent and did fantastic for me in pre-season games and I think he could have a big say in weeks to come. If he gets the ball on the deck he's going to cause problems and I think the defenders were terrified of his pace at times because they knew he could beat them." Reid handed out four debuts in his starting line-up in Inverness and plans to add more players to his squad before the transfer window shuts. Reid was delighted with the way his men bounced back from a 1-0 cup loss at Raith Rovers in midweek. He went on: "It was a big game for us today and to get three points away from home against a team who turned over Dundee United 4-0 last week was an incredible turn around for us".Home supporters may have expected more from the side after last Sunday's win at Tannadice and a comfortable 3-0 cup victory at home to Peterhead in midweek but the players failed to find the cutting edge in front of goal. Thistle manager Terry Butcher said: "It was disappointing because we know we can play far better than that, but fair play to Hamilton. They got the goal at the right time, albeit after a few seconds because it certainly helped to lift them. When they went 1-0 up that early it certainly gave them a lot of confidence and belief. Their system worked very well and everybody worked very hard in their team to maintain that lead and we just couldn't break them down. We didn't play anywhere near the level that we can play, like last week, but I said at that time performances like that don't come along too often. You hope that they do, but they don't. It was a case today of trying to get a win and the three points but unfortunately we didn't do that."
