Hartley set for Scotland recall

Scotland manager Craig Levein will recall Paul Hartley for the start of the Euro 2012 campaign after the midfielder marked his Aberdeen debut with a hat-trick.

Hartley netted three penalties in a 4-0 victory over Hamilton days after Scotland lost 3-0 in a friendly in Sweden without the 33-year-old.

"We suffered from a lack of experience in the last game," Levein told BBC Scotland. "It would be good to have a lot of characters like Paul back in the side."

Hartley, who played under Levein at Hearts, could come straight back into the team for the double-header against Lithuania and Liechtenstein early next month after Kevin Thomson suffered a broken leg while playing for Middlesbrough.

Levein added: "Paul's attitude is fantastic. He's at an age that he knows now how to play this holding position that he has been converted into.

"The reason he wasn't in the last squad was because he didn't have a club and he hadn't trained an awful lot.

"Now he has joined Aberdeen and he can get himself back to full fitness, he will be involved."
